Information You Send Directly
Names, phone numbers, and addresses entered in search forms are sent to the independent provider that produces the results. Our servers do not retain a copy of those search entries. When you email us, we receive the contents of your message and use them to respond.
Information Collected Automatically
Our host creates routine server logs, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time of visit. We review that information in aggregate for site operation and page-use patterns. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.
How We Use Information
We use this information to operate the site, diagnose problems, measure traffic, and improve the reference pages. We do not sell lists of visitors or create individual visitor profiles.
External Websites and Tools
Links lead to Macomb County and Michigan portals, library collections, archives, and independent search tools. The operator of each external service controls information submitted there under its own privacy policy. That includes sponsored search results supplied by a third party.
Who Processes Information
Hosting and support providers process server logs on our behalf. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. We disclose information only when valid legal process requires disclosure.
Safeguards
The site uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operational purposes described above. Because the site has no user accounts, it does not store a visitor password or account profile.
Visitors Under 18
This reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information to us, contact us so it can be removed.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to ask about access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information a website holds. The Michigan Attorney General's consumer privacy and opt-out guidance did not identify an enacted general Michigan consumer-privacy statute. Because we keep little information, a request normally involves checking the contact mailbox and relevant logs, then removing what is found. Send the request through the Contact page.
Government records held by the City of Sterling Heights, Macomb County, or Michigan agencies are outside our control. Access to nonexempt public records is governed by the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 et seq., and correction or removal questions belong with the custodian. Eligible survivors seeking address protection can review the Michigan Address Confidentiality Program, created by 2020 PA 301; it provides a designated address and mail forwarding through an advocate.
Policy Updates
Updates to this policy will appear here. Continued use after an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
